Te Waka Mokihi -

We learnt about the Mokihi waka using google slides. We learned that the Mokihi waka is made out of harakeke and bulrushes and it was good for crossing rivers, but it could only carry one person at a time.

This link will take to the slides: Te Whakapapa O Aotearoa

It was super fun and I thought planning was hard because putting it in the spot it was going to go in figuring what colors to.

What do you think we could work on and how we could make it better?

Te Whakapapa o Aotearoa -

For the last week I have been doing some research on migration, first I had to answer three questions: 1. Who were the Maori iwi that were in the south island first? 2. What waka did they migrate down on? 3. Why did the Ngati Mamoe migrate further south?
Then after we answered those questions we chose a famous Maori person and answered some questions on them. I thought it was really fun and I loved searching the internet for pieces of information about Rakaitauheke.

Do you know anything about Rakaitauheke?

Minecraft Mystery Box Monday 2021

For the last two weeks me, Pippin and Te Whetu had to create a house in the sky. We built a house that had 3 floors + a cave + a garden + an extremely hot tub with bubbles, there was three floors so we each had a floor to ourselves. We also had a bubble elevator, on one side there was bubbles so we went up and the other was just water so we went down.

The Cool Way To Work Out If Two Multiplication Problems Are The Same

Today I learnt how to solve multiplication problems using doubling and halving. This is how you do it.

True or false 12 x 8 is the same as 24 x 4? This is how you work it out:
12 x 2 = 24
÷ 2 = 4
= 24 x 4
True!

I found this trick is very handy to make multiplication problems easier for me and I have used it several times already.

What way do you works out multiplication problems?

Kapehu Whetu

A few weeks ago I make a kapehu whetu, that means star compass. A kapehu whetu helps you to navigate using the stars and it works best when you're sailing because there is no light pollution to block your view of the stars.

5 facts about a kapehu whetu -

1. When using the star compass it uses the stars to navigate.
2. The words in between Tonga, Whitinga, Raki and Tomokanga are called whare.
3. The Maori and Polynesians both used the star compass to navigate.
4.  The kapehu whetu works best when you're sailing because there is no light pollution to block your view of the stars.
5. The kapehu whetu also uses the sun to navigate.

Koru Art

For the last 11 weeks (just the Tuesdays) I have been making some art. First I looked at a famous NZ artists art for inspiration, then I designed what I was going to draw and gave it a meaning but I did it on my bad version so I didn't make any mistakes on my good version, then I did my good version, after that I colored in my good version with water color pencils and finally added water to the water color pencil and it was done.
