Amazing Book Club:

The book I am reading is Ordinary Hero and it is a book about a boy called Ryan. He saves a girl called Sonia from a fire then he becomes a hero but  doesn't like the attention. My favourite part of the book so far is the bit where he rescues the girl from the fire.

A book club is where you have a book that you need to read over 9 days. The first thing you need to is find how many pages to read a day and on the first day you read that amount of pages then you fill in a Ticket To Discussion Day that looks like the picture on the left. The next day each of the people in your group choose a job from the picture below and using the information on the other people in your group's Ticket To Discussion Day tickets fill in the stuff to complete your job and repeat for the next 7 days.

What book would you choose if you did book clubs?

Thank you for reading my blog post! 😄

The Amazing Way To Round A Fraction To The Nearest Whole

W.A.L.T : Round A Fraction To The Nearest Whole

Yesterday I learned to round fractions of a whole number to

the nearest whole number. Here is an example:

2.734502

The trick is we ignore all the other parts of the fraction apart from

the first part of the fraction which is 7 in this case. If the 7 is 6 -10

the whole number which is 2 in this case is now 3, but if it is 4 -1

the answer is 2. But what if the first part of the fraction is five? Well

then we look at the second part of the fraction. If that is five too we

move to the next number and so on… but were where were we, a

yes if the first part of the fraction is 5 we look at the next number let’s

say that's 2 if the 2 is 6 -10 the 2 turns the fraction of the whole

number 5 into a fraction of the whole number 6 which now means

it turns the whole number 2 into a whole number 3, but if the fraction

of the whole number 2 is 4 -1 the whole number is still 2.

The amazing way to turn a big topic into a seed topic -

W.A.L.T: focus on our topic for a information report.
S.C: I turned a watermelon topic into a slice topic then turned it into a seed topic my watermelon was music, my slice was piano and my seed was the song Aunt Rhody.

Turning a watermelon topic into a seed topic is vital for writing an information report, it turns it into a slice topic which a medium size topic and then a seed topic which is a small topic. Seed topics are important for topics that are really big which are watermelon topics, it turns them into seed topic which is small and easy for you to write a information report about that topic.

I found tuning a watermelon topic into a seed topic challenging and I found the template we had to do easier.
Have you written a information report?

The Monster Under My Bed -

There is a large hairy monster under my bed and I can prove it, at night it makes yowling and growling noises. "yuuggaahhh ouargg!" It gropes around with it's long bony fingers for stuff to bite, rip and chew. It doesn't know I'm there... yet, sometimes it climbs out from under my bed and clambers out my open window to hunt for animals to eat it's victims bones go crunch and crack like crackers and I catch a glimpse of greasy matted yellow fur and muscular limbs. When it finishes hunting it makes some grunting noises and and clambers back under my bed, "umpf umpf" like a Hippo.

The monster lives under Lily's bed, she is a ten year old girl with a very kind heart. She has blond hair and loves carrots. One day she said to her mum, "mum, there's a monster under my bed."
"don't be silly" said her mum "there's no monster under your bed." Lily tried to protest.
"but mum" Lily pleaded "there really is a monster under my bed! believe me mu-"
"Lily! I have no time for nonsense, these days I am a very busy women!". At bedtime she sneaked into bed and hid under the blankets. A few minutes later the monster started to stir, it slid out from under the bed and climbed out of the window and into the night...

Later that night Lily woke to the sound of the monster returning from it's hunt, it climbed through the window and under my bed. At last the morning came and she sneaked out of bed and walked into the kitchen. She was going to try and persuade her mum to believe her again. Mum was in the kitchen cooking pancakes, “mum” Lily said angrily
“Will show you the monster!”
”But honey-” her mother protested but Lily dragged her mum to her room, “now” she commanded “take a look under my bed.” her mum hesitantly looked under the bed… and there was the monster asleep, mum sneaked out of the room timidly and called the police. They had the monster put in a deep slumber with a blow dart and taken away, the end.

My Matariki bag tag...

My design in Tinkercad...

On Tinkercad I made a Matariki bag tag, it was very fun but it took me a lot of time, because it was very delicate and you need to get the size right and everything. The picture above is the Matariki bag tag I made. There are the nine stars of Matariki on it, I hope you like it! and please leave a comment.

                                                                          Lou's Life

My Trip To Travis Wetlands

On Rapare 22 Here-Turi-Koka the tuakana from Ata Hapara went by van to Travis Wetlands.
We were met by Pete a C.C.C. environmental educator.
I learnt about how the food chain works and about the bugs and birds that live in the Wetlands. I went catching them with a sieve, using the figure eight method. I identified and caught in my tray: 1 Water Boatman, 2 mites and 6 Water Fleas. We went bird spying and identifying and I saw: 2 Canada Geese, 6 Pukeko, 13 Mallard ducks and 1 Black swan. We also learnt how the wetlands are a bed and breakfast, sponge, sieve, airport and nest to all birds. It is a bed and breakfast for birds because they can have a nap and have a snack, it is a sponge because it absorbs and releases water to stop floods, it is a sieve because it cleans the water, it is an airport for birds because birds can land here, have a snack and take off and it is a nest because birds can mate and have their babies here. I enjoyed bug catching because I love catching bugs! soon we had to leave, when we got back to school I hoped we could return soon the end.
