How To Grow Lettuce:

Introduction -

Have you ever wondered how to grow lettuce? Or how to protect your lettuce from birds, bunnies, slugs

and snails?  Well wonder no more! Find all the answers in this text. Enjoy!

Seeds & Their Protection -

First, go out to the shops and buy some lettuce seeds. Then, if you have a greenhouse read the first box,

if not then read the 2nd box.

Get some soil from your garden then get a pot

from your greenhouse and fill it with the soil.

Then, make a small hole in the soil about 3

mm deep with your finger and pop a lettuce

seed into the hole (you can put a few in the

same hole if you like because safety in

numbers applies to plants.) and put it in the

green house. Remember to water every day.

Find a clear spot in your garden and make a

small hole in the soil about 3 mm deep with

your finger and pop a lettuce seed into the

hole. (you can put a few in the same hole if

you like because safety in numbers applies to

plants.) Then, draw a square in the soil with

your finger about the size of an A4 piece of

paper and stab a bamboo stick about 25 cm

tall into the soil in each corner and hang a net

over it. (This protects against bunnies and

birds.) Remember to water every day.

Seedlings & Their Protection -

Once the plant is the size of an adults fist, bring it out of the greenhouse and plant it in the garden and

draw a square in the soil with your finger about the size of an A4 piece of paper and stab a bamboo stick

about 25 cm tall into the soil in each corner and hang a net over it. (The net  protects against bunnies and

birds, for the birds could rip up the seedling in search of food and the bunnies could nibble the seedling

and both of those things could kill the seedling.) If it is already in the garden, leave it there. Now, you

might have a snail and slug problem (you can tell if you have a snail problem by looking out for holes in

the leaves and snail and slugs hiding in the plant in the day and they eat the seedling at night.) So stop

them by putting crushed egg shells, sand or diatomaceous dirt around your seedling. (Remember the

traps won’t last forever so you will have to replace them.) Still water regularly.

Plant -

Once it is 5 inches tall you can take the net away if there are no bunnies nearby (it is too big to be eaten

by birds but bunnies can still eat it.) and you can stop watering daily if you want, it doesn't matter whether

you stop too soon or too late, but remember to water it if it wilts. (You can tell it is wilting by looking out for

the leaves drooping, stems bending and the plant going floppy. It wilts when you replant it, but you don’t

need to water it then.) Still keep putting crushed egg shells, sand or diatomaceous dirt around your plant,

because if your plant gets eaten too much and dies you will have to start all over again.

Summary -

So that's how you protect your lettuce from birds, bunnies, slugs and snails and how you grow lettuce, the perfect plant for starting your garden. They also are in many recipes, including soups, salads and tacos. The perfect lettuce should have a vivid color, the leaves should be firm and there are so many different types of lettuce which all have different flavors there is not one that is the best: Crisp, mild, buttery, soft, peppery and many more.

My Cool Creation -

Today I make a Pokemon card called Smokat. I made this Pokémon card because I was bored and I wanted to make a Pokémon card. Here is a picture of my Pokemon card below.

I thought it was really fun but it took me a while to get all the information I needed and put it all together in one Pokemon card correctly.

I hope you liked my Pokemon card! What Pokemon could you make? Answer by commenting below and thanks for reading my blog!

Our Amazing Mexican Slides

We had to choose a culture and we chose Mexican and we each did a slide about a different thing about Mexico and those things are: Traditional Clothing, Traditional Holidays, Traditional Games, Traditional Food, Traditional Music, Location and Traditional Beliefs and Values, then we made a poster. (You can see it below.)

I chose Location and Holidays because there was one thing left over.

This is the link to take you to my slides - Mokihi Cultures Around The World

It was so much fun and we thought putting everything on the poster was hard because not all the pictures would fit. We also thought the writing was hard because there were a lot of words to write down on the paper.

Do you know anything about Mexican language? How do you think we can improve?

Te Waka Mokihi -

We learnt about the Mokihi waka using google slides. We learned that the Mokihi waka is made out of harakeke and bulrushes and it was good for crossing rivers, but it could only carry one person at a time.

This link will take to the slides: Te Whakapapa O Aotearoa

It was super fun and I thought planning was hard because putting it in the spot it was going to go in figuring what colors to.

What do you think we could work on and how we could make it better?

Te Whakapapa o Aotearoa -

For the last week I have been doing some research on migration, first I had to answer three questions: 1. Who were the Maori iwi that were in the south island first? 2. What waka did they migrate down on? 3. Why did the Ngati Mamoe migrate further south?
Then after we answered those questions we chose a famous Maori person and answered some questions on them. I thought it was really fun and I loved searching the internet for pieces of information about Rakaitauheke.

Do you know anything about Rakaitauheke?

Ngai Te Rangi and Ngati Porou. When he grew up he learnt to sing and play the guitar and he got a job as

a singer, actor and television personality.

My Meme No.2

Today I learnt a new karakia it was He iti hoki te mokoroa, nāna i kakati te kahikatea. - There is power in small things.

Minecraft Mystery Box Monday 2021

For the last two weeks me, Pippin and Te Whetu had to create a house in the sky. We built a house that had 3 floors + a cave + a garden + an extremely hot tub with bubbles, there was three floors so we each had a floor to ourselves. We also had a bubble elevator, on one side there was bubbles so we went up and the other was just water so we went down.

The Cool Way To Work Out If Two Multiplication Problems Are The Same

Today I learnt how to solve multiplication problems using doubling and halving. This is how you do it.

True or false 12 x 8 is the same as 24 x 4? This is how you work it out:
12 x 2 = 24
÷ 2 = 4
= 24 x 4
True!

I found this trick is very handy to make multiplication problems easier for me and I have used it several times already.

What way do you works out multiplication problems?

Kapehu Whetu

A few weeks ago I make a kapehu whetu, that means star compass. A kapehu whetu helps you to navigate using the stars and it works best when you're sailing because there is no light pollution to block your view of the stars.

5 facts about a kapehu whetu -

1. When using the star compass it uses the stars to navigate.
2. The words in between Tonga, Whitinga, Raki and Tomokanga are called whare.
3. The Maori and Polynesians both used the star compass to navigate.
4.  The kapehu whetu works best when you're sailing because there is no light pollution to block your view of the stars.
5. The kapehu whetu also uses the sun to navigate.

Koru Art

For the last 11 weeks (just the Tuesdays) I have been making some art. First I looked at a famous NZ artists art for inspiration, then I designed what I was going to draw and gave it a meaning but I did it on my bad version so I didn't make any mistakes on my good version, then I did my good version, after that I colored in my good version with water color pencils and finally added water to the water color pencil and it was done.

My Blogging -

W.A.L.T: pose a statistical investigation about the number of blog posts over the past three years and write statements telling our story.

I created a graph showing how many posts I did every year, the average amount of posts I do every year and the total amount of posts I did for the last three years. It was really fun and I really enjoyed every part of it.

Per Year2019 Posts2020 Posts2021 PostsTotal PostsAverage
Number Of Blog Posts62774613.33333333

Three statements about this graph -
1. The year I did the most blog posts was 2020 because it has the highest number of posts.
2. The year I did the littlest blog posts was 2019 because it has the lowest number of posts.
3. The average amount of posts per year is 13.33333333.
4.  A goal for the future of my blog posting is to get at least 11 posts done per year.

How many posts did you do?
